“All about the benjamins” Is that so? Since a few years, there are a lot of watchbrands on the market who produce watches with designs of (in this example) Rolex. Especially the Rolex Submariner. Now, we all know it is not done to own/buy/obtain copies of watches. It doesn’t mind if it is a 10 USD fake bought in Canal Street NYC or a 150 USD copy bought on the internet. However, it seems to be legit and accepted to buy a MarcelloC Tridente or Nettuno which start in price around 400 Euro to 695 euro. This way you have something that looks like a Rolex Submariner for a fraction of the price of one. The same goes for Invicta, which are a bit cheaper I think.
However, the thing is (there are even guys that try to deny that it looks like a Submariner and just say they almost no design is original or unique), people tend to say something like this “Hey, how do you like my new MarcelloC watch. It looks like a Rolex Sub, but at the fraction of the price and just as good” or maybe even more subtile, “Hey, how do you like my new MarcelloC watch, Rolex Submariner design for just a few hundred Euros”. Can you conclude that it is really “all about the benjamins”? That, if they had the money, would buy a Rolex Submariner over a MarcelloC or Invicta? To each his own, but I would rather spend my money on something unique or ‘original’. MarcelloC and Invicta both have some original and ‘unique’ models as well btw. This rant is not meant to bash these brands, but a way to determine if it is really about the money or if people really really like their MarcelloC/Invicta for its looks, quality and price…

The question remains the same at every forum though, why buy a Rolex while you can get ‘a more interesting watch’ for the same kind of money.
Gerard Nijenbrinks nailed this one perfectly in my opinion, which is:
“If a watch is more interesting or not, is a very personal question of course. As you see by yourself, it’s difficult not to look through your own eyes when determining if a watch is interesting or not (to you).
To me Rolex watches are interesting because of their (construction of) movement and ruggedness of their watch cases.
I feel a lot of respect for a company which proved to be able to produce so many watches with this constant level of quality.
With these points in view, I can’t find another watch(brand) which has acomplished the same for this kind of money.
Every watch has it own story, and is attractive to someone for it’s own reasons. No one has to convince anybody to choose for a certain watch; you should be aware of your own reasons why to want a certain watch.

After having worked for the Cantonales Technikum institute and at Rado Watches, Ryser Kentfield moved to the USA to start his Swiss Timepieces store in 1990. Ryser Kentfield now tries to get retailers world wide, to sell his watches and to get a bit of attention for his brand name. He makes and sells 700 watches a year, but predicts it will be somewhere between 1000 and 2000 pieces in 2007. His watches start at 1100 USD and use an ETA 2824-2 self-winding movement. His website, http://www.ryserwatches.com, feature background information on his brand, online collection of watches and a list of retailers. His watches are available in stainless steel, 10micro rose gold plating or yellow gold with PVD coating. I have one tip for mr Kentfield there… get rid of the 10micro rose gold plating and yellow gold with PVD coating.. Those types of inferior finish of materials gives a brand a bad rep. Anyway, all the luck to Ryser Kentfield and his line of watches!
